Keeping Our Communities Safe: Know Your Local Defibrillator Locations

At Paula Churchill Training Solutions, we believe that everyone deserves to feel confident and prepared in an emergency. That's why we're launching a brand new initiative to help keep our local communities safe — starting with Weybridge.

Why Does This Matter?

Every year in the UK, over 30,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital. When someone's heart stops, every second counts. Having access to a defibrillator (AED) and knowing how to use it can more than double the chances of survival.

But here's the thing — many people don't know where their nearest defibrillator is located. And in a high-pressure emergency situation, that lost time searching could be the difference between life and death.

Why Know Your Defib Locations in Advance?

It's true that when you call 999, the emergency services will direct you to your nearest available defibrillator and provide the access code if it's in a locked cabinet. That's incredibly reassuring to know.

However, there's real value in knowing where your local defibs are located before an emergency ever happens.

Here's why:

✅ Familiarity breeds confidence — In a stressful situation, your mind can go blank. If you already know there's a defib at the local shop, sports club, or train station, you won't need to think twice.

✅ You can act faster — While one person calls 999, another can already be running to collect the defib. Those extra seconds saved could be lifesaving.

✅ You can share the knowledge — The more people in your community who know where the defibs are, the better prepared everyone is.

✅ Peace of mind — Simply knowing where help is available can give you confidence that you're ready to respond if the worst were to happen.

Think of it like knowing where your fire extinguisher is at home — you hope you'll never need it, but if you do, you'll be glad you knew exactly where to find it.

Our Commitment to You

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sending out a series of community guides highlighting defibrillator locations across Surrey and the surrounding areas. Each guide will show you:

✅ Where your nearest defibs are located

✅ What to do in a cardiac emergency

✅ How to access locked defib cabinets

✅ Why first aid training gives you a vital advantage

We're starting with Weybridge, but this is just the beginning. Future guides will cover:

Walton-on-Thames

Hersham

Cobham

Esher

Shepperton

Addlestone

And more...

Our goal is simple: to give you the knowledge and confidence to act fast when it matters most.

Anyone Can Use a Defibrillator

One of the biggest misconceptions is that you need medical training to use a defibrillator. You don't.

Modern AEDs are designed for anyone to use — they provide clear voice prompts that guide you through every step. You simply follow the instructions, and the machine does the rest.

However, proper training is still a huge advantage.

Not every emergency requires a defibrillator. Some situations call for CPR alone, while others may need different first aid treatment. With the right training, you'll know:

What to look for

When a defib is needed

When CPR is the right response

How to stay calm and take control

At Paula Churchill Training Solutions, we offer comprehensive first aid and defibrillator training for individuals, businesses, schools, and community groups. Our courses are designed to give you the practical skills and confidence to respond effectively in any emergency.
